Show Content Information

At the Oxford Performing Arts Center, we present over sixty shows a year, focusing on providing options that appeal to a wide range of tastes. While most shows at OPAC are family-friendly, not every performance is suitable for every person. We encourage our guests to thoroughly research an artist or performance before buying tickets. A typical season at OPAC offers concerts, Broadway musicals, and occasionally comedy acts and movies.

Concerts:

Please be advised that some concerts at our venue may include music with lyrics containing adult language and mature themes. Additionally, artists may express opinions or make statements during their performances that could be considered objectionable by some audience members. We appreciate your understanding that some content may not be suitable for all audiences.

Comedy:

Please note that some comedy acts may include content that could be offensive to some guests, featuring strong language and mature themes. Our commitment is to offer a wide range of performances that cater to varied tastes, acknowledging that comedic content often pushes boundaries. Please do research before purchasing tickets to a comedy act with which you are unfamiliar.

Movies:

OPAC offers free movies near select holidays throughout the year.  As is the case with movies at a movie-only theatre, some films may have content that some guests might find objectionable.  When OPAC presents movies, we always list the MPA (Motion Picture Association) rating.  Please research the content of any movie you are considering attending.

Broadway:

While Broadway shows offer an incredible range of entertainment, it's important to note that some productions may not be suitable for every guest. These elements can include explicit dialogue, depictions of violence, or complex subject matter that might not be appropriate for younger audiences or those sensitive to such content. Before purchasing tickets, we recommend reviewing the show's content advisory to ensure it aligns with your comfort level and expectations. This way, you can select a Broadway experience that everyone in your party will enjoy and appreciate, ensuring a memorable and positive theater outing.

We strongly encourage all ticket buyers to view each performance's listing on our website to learn more about show-specific content.  View our full listing of events here.  We also encourage ticket buyers to fully research each show to ensure it suits their preferences and tastes before purchasing.

Tips for Ticket Buyers

A ticket buyer can determine if a show is appropriate for them by following these steps:

  1. Check the Official Website: Most shows which perform at OPAC have official websites that provide detailed information about the production, including content advisories and age recommendations. Look for sections titled "About the Show," "FAQ," or "Audience Guidelines."

  2. Read Reviews and Synopses: Websites like Playbill, BroadwayWorld, and theater/concert review sites often provide synopses and reviews that include information on the show's themes, language, and content. This can give you a sense of what to expect and whether it aligns with your comfort levels.

  3. Consult Content Advisories: Our website offers content advisories that outline any strong language, mature themes, or potentially sensitive material in the show. This information is designed to help you make an informed decision.

  4. Age Recommendations: Look for age recommendations or restrictions on our website on the show listing. Some shows specify a minimum age due to mature content, while others may be labeled as family-friendly.

  5. Watch Trailers and Clips: Viewing trailers, clips, and promotional videos can give you a visual and auditory preview of the show, helping you gauge its suitability.

  6. Ask the Box Office: If you're still unsure, contact the OPAC box office directly at info@oxfordpac.org or call 256-241-3322. Staff members are usually knowledgeable about the productions and can provide insights into the show's content and appropriateness.

  7. Read Audience Reviews: Audience reviews on sites like Ticketmaster, Yelp, or social media can provide firsthand accounts of the show's content and its impact on different age groups.

By utilizing these resources, you can confidently select a show that matches your interests and comfort levels, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable theater experience.
